What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is often described as an 'altered state' of consciousness (day dreaming in a busy, noisy room is a good example). It can be self-induced or induced by another person, if so, the subject retains awareness of the presence of the inducer. Simply put, when you are in hypnosis you are in a different state to your normal waking state.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnotic techniques to bring about therapeutic changes. The therapist helps the client to use their inner resources in order to acheive their goals.

How do I know it is for me?
Every client has a free initial consultation that lasts at least 20 minutes. During that meeting we will discuss the following issues:
-
Matters that are important to you.
-
Therapeutic techniques that may be helpful.
-
How many sessions may be required.
-
What kind of effort will be required of you.
-
Cost of therapy.
Because we are all unique and respond differently to certain therapies this meeting is very useful for deciding whether this investment is for you. We can even try a couple of techniques if you are curious e.g. What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
What will a therapy session be like?
Each therapy session lasts an hour (except for smoking cessation which takes longer) and may consist of the following:

Time to talk, discuss your progress and ask any questions you may have.

Self-awareness/Psycho-education - there are a number of models we can examine in order to help us understand ourselves. This can be very useful when pursuing change.

Hypnotherapy - an age-old way to enable an individual to make adjustments and changes to 'subconscious' habits and patterns.

Various other techniques such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and 'tapping' can also be used to assist in making the required change.
Matt Taylor graduated from Manchester University in 1993 and from that point has worked, professionally, helping and guiding people through changes in their lives. Matt moved into hypnotherapy (qualiying as a hypnotherapist in 2006) because he wanted to assist his clients to make more significant changes than he previously felt able to do. He believes we all have the resources and ability to acheive the transformations we desire but sometimes we just need a little guidance to get there. Matt combines hypnotherapy with the knowledge, skills and techniques he has developed over the past 15 years .
