Frailty Prevention

What is Frailty?

Our working definition:
Frailty is an age-related condition which may result in the loss of strength, speed, energy, activity, muscle mass, resilience to minor health strains and, subsequently, the loss of independence.

FRAILTY is NOT INEVITABLE
YOU ARE NOT SET

If identified early enough, certain losses may be reversible
AND...
Your mid and later-life activity can make a significant difference in preventing frailty.

Frailty is described as a syndrome, which is a medical term for a condition that has a number of factors (The Frailty Index lists 70 different factors).

Frailty is of great interest to health services due to the high proportion of 60 year olds in the population and the fact that this proportion is growing.
Of the many challenges that frailty brings, losing one's independence, and eventually, ones dignity are challenges that want to help people forestall for as long as possible. A lot of great minds, including dedicated scientists, committed medics and concerned groups are involved in figuring out the ‘Whats, Whys and Hows’ of frailty, especially when it comes to treatment and prevention.

Our study of the matter has revealed that physiotherapists have an important role to play, not just in fall-prevention but in helping a person function optimally enabling them to remain strong, active and capable.

Over the next couple of months, the team at Cambridgeshire Sports Physio and Back Care will be putting together a comprehensive programme, aimed at helping you to maintain your physical vitality into your 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond. It will be based on the latest research and will address a number of health parameters involved in the onset of frailty. These health matters fall squarely within the expertise of physiotherapy - areas such as pain management, balance & proprioception and healthy movement & functionality.

Our team of physiotherapists will be offering free talks, packed with useful information and tips, that all members of the public are welcome to attend. We hope to be able to make a notable difference to the quality of lives of our clients and friends in Cambridge and Huntingdon.

For announcements about dates and venues, please keep checking our website and social media feed.
